The ICC Champions Trophy is a tournament for the eight top-ranked One Day international cricket teams from around the world. Attracting a diverse range of patriotic supporters both old and young, the ICC Champions Trophy took place over 15 days right here in the UK, moving daily between London, Cardiff and Birmingham.

Our brief was to create an experiential photo mechanic that would draw guests in as well as offer them something to take home. Their key aims were focused around enhancing spectator experience and generating content for social media. The solution? Building a bespoke photo activation that toured the event for just short of 3 weeks. We felt like cricket rockstars… or something to that effect!

Our photographers would give instructions to fans, directing them on position and pose and all of that good stuff. Photos were then rotated and the final outputs created an illusion, where fans looked as though they were sliding their bat across the ‘no ball’ crease line or catching a ball right before it crossed the boundary. This is a great example of how our effects software  can be used to create surprise outputs which fans love!

Photos were not only printed automatically, but delivered straight to fan’s mobiles on a branded microsite which made sharing to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram super easy. Fans were just asked to enter a mobile number while their photo printed.

Some fans were super keen to share their photos there and then, and for these ‘avid sharers’ there was also the option to upload live using our seamless live social sharing software, which runs on a iPad.

Our entire setup (the tent, artificial turf flooring, walls, artwork, cameras, sharing dock, printers and all) were especially designed to last the 15 match schedule and be moved each day. Our team travelled overnight between the venues, arriving on site at 6am each day.

They’d have the whole activation built and ready to shot fan photos by 8am. Then once the match finished, they’d pack down ready to travel to their next match. Shoot, eat, sleep, repeat!



The results: 5,821 individual photos shared via the ICC Microsite 6,000+ photos printed.
